Sheet pile retaining wall at Waterford Transport Hub
Steel Piling Solutions installed a sheet pile retaining wall at Waterford Transport Hub to stabilise an embankment beside an active railway line. Our team used a Liebherr Piling Rig to drive the steel sheet piles while limiting disruption to transport operations.

PROJECT OVERVIEW
The project
The Waterford Transport Hub needed a retaining wall to protect a nearby railway line from soil movement. The team installed steel sheet piles to stabilise the railway embankment as development continued at the transport hub.
THE CHALLENGE
Working beside an active railway
The site’s proximity to an active railway line demanded precise work and strict attention to safety. The ground also contained varying soil strata, so the team needed to assess the conditions and choose an effective piling technique.
The project also had to keep railway operations running with minimal disruption.
OUR METHOD
Installing the sheet pile wall
Our team used a Liebherr Piling Rig to drive steel sheet piles into the ground. The rig helped us install the piles precisely and quickly, while the sheet pile wall created a retaining structure beside the railway embankment.
THE RESULT
A stabilised railway embankment
The retaining wall stabilised the embankment and helped prevent soil movement. Our team finished the project within schedule and limited the impact on transport operations.
